Today we are reading Luke 2.
As we read, these verses stood out to me:

Luke 3:15-18 - Now while the people were in a state of expectation and they all were thinking carefully in their hearts about John, whether he himself perhaps was the Christ, 16 John responded to them all, saying, “As for me, I baptize you with water; but He is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the straps of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 17 His winnowing fork is in His hand to thoroughly clear His threshing floor, and to gather the wheat into His barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” 18 So with many other exhortations he preached the gospel to the people.

Honest Questions

1. There is about a 25-30 year gap between Luke 2 and Luke 3. In your opinion, what are some of the most important activities a child can participate in between the ages of 5 and 30?

2. When do you first start thinking that you had something you could offer as an adult to the world around you?

3. Has anyone ever helped you "get established"? If so, how did they do it and do you think you will be able to help others in a similar way?

4. Do you think we think of Jesus like John thought of Jesus? Why or why not?

5. How can we apply the heart of John's message to our lives today?

6. Luke 3:15 indicates that the people were in a state of "expectation" concerning the ministry of John and the pending arrival of the Messiah. This is an atmosphere that was present at the time of the Birth of Christ as well. Do you think that entire 30-40 year period was characterized by a sense of expectation or do you think these were just some of the highlights?

7. Look at Luke 3:23. When do you think people began to understand the fact that Jesus was not the offspring of Joseph?

8. Why is it important for us to understand the implications of the Virgin Birth? Is it possible for us to be saved by Christ if He was not in fact born of a virgin? How did you come to this conviction?

9. What is was your favorite verse in Luke 3 and why?

10. Do you have any specific questions or prayer requests after reading Luke 3?
