Luke 1:1-4

Today we are reading Luke 1.
As we read, these verses stood out to me:

Luke 1:1-4 - Since many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplished among us, 2 just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning
were eyewitnesses and servants of the word, 3 it seemed fitting to me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in an orderly sequence, most excellent Theophilus; 4 so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught.

You can share anything that is on your heart but, if you don't know where to start, try reading these verses and answering one or more of the following "Honest Questions."

Honest Questions

1. The relationship between Luke and Theophilus is fascinating to me. It is directly because of the way that God used this relationship that we have the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts. Some people argue that it is because of this relationship that we have all of the scriptures in the format we have them. Who are some people that inspire you to go deeper in your walk of faith? What is one way that they have helped you do more than you would have done without their help?

2. Do you think Theophilus compensated Luke for the compilation of these stories or do you think it was something Luke did simply as an act of service for a friend?

3. Have you ever been financially compensated for an act of Christian service? If so, how did that make you feel?

4. Have you ever written a discipleship plan of any sort? Do you still use it or did you abandon it? Why did you do what you chose to do?

5. Do you think of yourself as a disciple making disciple? If so, what are some of the most helpful resources you have found to work with people in this way?

6. Luke 1 is a very long chapter. It tells the story of several different people, families, and ministries. What are some of the details that stand out most for you in this chapter and why?

7. Isn't the role women and babies play in this chapter beautiful? How does the Biblical view of these miracles agree with or compete with our view of women and children in ministry today?

8. There are many supernatural events occurring in the earliest days of the Gospel and God is using a lot of people in some pretty incredible ways. Do you think these things are were documented to show us what a special event the Advent of Christ was or do you think these details were shared to shape the expectations we should have for all Christian ministry? In your opinion, were these event ordinary or extra-ordinary, unique or prototypical?

9. What is was your favorite verse in Luke 1 and why?
