Mark 16:15-18

Today we are reading Mark 16.
As we read, these verses stood out to me:

Mark 16:15-18 - And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. 17 These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Honest Questions

1. As we read through the book of Mark it seems obvious to me that the author consistently points out our apparent inability to be obedient/do what we are told to do. Look at Mark 16:7-8. How many times did people in this book disobey when they were told not to tell what Jesus had done? Now, they disobey when they are told to talk about what Jesus has done. What does this tell us about human nature?

2. Compare the disobedience of people to the obedience of Jesus in Matthew 26:39, Philippians 2:8, and Hebrews 12:1-2. What are some other verses that tell us about the obedience of Jesus?

3. As I read this chapter, the three unbeliefs of the disciples reminded me of the three denials of Peter. I have never heard anyone point this out before, have you?

4. In context, it seems to me that our commissioning has very little to do with our qualifications, faithfulness, or past obedience. In fact, it seems that our commissioning has a lot more to do with what Jesus did that what we have done. How should we apply this observation to our lives?

5. Do you think the Great Commission is something all followers of Jesus are able to participate in or is it something only the eleven were called to do? Why do you think that and do you think signs and wonders should accompany our presentation of the Gospel as well?

6. Do we talk about the condemnation of the disbelieving enough? If not, how do you suggest we start? Is the condemnation of the disbelieving part of the gospel presentation? Is it the starting point, the ending point, or something that should only be spoken of as needed?

7. Look at Romans 2:14-16 and Romans 12:11-15. Why is it important for us to preach the Gospel?

8. Would you be willing to let me record a video conversation where we talk about your conversion or some of the things God has done in your life since you got saved?

9. What was your favorite verse in Mark 16 and why?

10. Do you have any specific questions or prayer requests after reading Mark 16?
